Business Development Worker

15 Hours a week

As a result of our successful funding bid to the National Lottery Community Fund, Cloth Cat, the Leeds based music-based charity, is looking for a Business Development Worker to generate, grow and retain business revenue from new and existing channels to promote sustainability within the organisation. You will also identify and write funding bids, contracts and tenders, as well as source other areas of funding where required to enable the charity to maintain and grow its essential work within the Leeds community.

Cloth Cat is an established grassroots organisation which works city-wide around Leeds supporting those most in need to gain control over their lives and find avenues into employment, further education and other positive activity via a variety of music based activities. We provide an exciting programme of activities and include the opportunity to learn a variety of skills and develop musical talent. 

We are looking for someone with a dynamic, outgoing and friendly personality who has experience in public and corporate fundraising, and a passion for working within the Leeds voluntary sector.

Business Development Worker Job Description

​

Title: Business Development Worker

​

Salary / Hours: £27,358 pro rata for 15 hours per week (actual salary = £11,091 per annum).

 

2.75 Year Fixed-term Contract. 15 hours to be worked flexibly by mutual agreement, in line with the needs of the organisation. Cloth Cat will meet all statutory obligations to provide a stakeholder pension scheme.

Reporting To: Project Co-ordinator

​

Overview


In this role, you will be responsible for generating, growing and retaining business revenue from new and existing channels to promote sustainability within the organisation. Liaising with the Project Co-ordinator, you will identify and develop funding bids, contracts and tenders, as well as other sources of project funding where required, to enable the charity to maintain and grow its essential work.

​

Key Responsibilities

​

  • Develop and implement an income generation strategy to grow and diversify Cloth Cat’s income streams and supporter base.

  • Research potential funding opportunities and work with colleagues to develop, write and present funding applications and proposals.

  • Build long-term relationships with new and existing supporters and partners, including trusts, foundations, government and corporate bodies.

  • Prepare business plans for specific projects including budgets, cashflow forecasts and SMART outcomes

  • Promote Cloth Cat to the wider community

  • Contribute to producing GDPR compliant high quality research on individuals, companies and trusts for fundraising purposes, as well as sector and thematic research

  • Seek out and develop opportunities to grow and increase our networks in order to identify potential new projects and supporters

  • Provide regular reports to the Management Committee, with analysis of income, expenditure and project evaluation

  • Maintain comprehensive records of all fundraising activities and money raised

  • Ensure a strong online presence and print information for fundraising or business initiatives

Person Specification

​

Experience

Essential:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ proven track record in a business development or fundraising management role

  • Experience of writing funding applications and/or project evaluations, or equivalent professional writing experience

  • Experience of writing business /strategic development plans

  • Experience of creating printed and online marketing and communications materials

​

Knowledge

Essential:

​

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Publisher

  • Excellent working knowledge of using the internet for communication and research

  • An understanding of where to access information relating to tenders, contracts, sponsorship and trust funding

  • Understanding of business and service planning, fundraising, budgeting and full cost recovery

Desirable:

​

  • A local knowledge of agencies, organisations, services and activities for people at risk of social exclusion

​
